“Holy moly, the coaches and other girls are the best…It’s like you go for social hour with your gym friends and end up getting really sweaty.” ๐
School Psychologist
I started going to one of those bootcampy/challenge gyms almost three years ago and got hooked on getting my behind handed to me in a workout. I’ve always felt like everyone knows that I’m clueless at the typical gym (making it super uncomfortable to try new things), and finding a convenient class schedule is a pain in the rear. So, a class with a great coach at a ton of easy-to-make times? Yes. After years of just never really feeling like I got stronger despite working out a lot, I finally ended up at FGF last June when a friend of mine started coming. I was immediately all in. It was so satisfying to, like, do a push-up for literally the first time in my life.
Getting a Double Under was one of my happiest gym moments. Being able to do a Push-Up on my toes for the first time was also one of the greatest fitness moments of my life. It’s fun to see progress in so many different areas, and to know that there are always more skills, challenges, and feats of strength to tackle! ๐คจ
Chaining my Double Unders; my body does not understand. Also, being a responsible adult about my knees, which are kind of garbage from abuse when I was a teenager: doing my PT exercises, not doing things I know I shouldn’t ๐ even though I really want to, etc.
Power Cleans feel the most badass (can I say that?), and I love them. Least favorite is a tie between Kettlebell Swings and Renegade Rows (is that what they’re called?). How do I hate Kettlebell Swings? Let me count the ways. But I also loathe Renegade Rows. So, whichever one of them we’re doing in the moment.
The camaraderie! Holy moly, the coaches and other girls are the best!
I’m kind of a disaster if I don’t start my day with a workout. I’m so much more functional in my whole life. I also start to break down if I don’t get to yoga at least once a week. ๐ง Sooo thankful for [complimentary] Sunday yoga on the calendar now!
It’s completely crazy pants during the school year; like, for example, right now! ๐คช My husband of 13 years and I have 3 kids (8, 6, and 5 tomorrow); he’s in grad school and works full-time from home, and I work 4 days per week (on a good week; lately it’s closer to 7…). I have summers off, so the kids and I laze around for 2.5 months until I remember why I work. ๐ Our family loves to camp, hike, travel, go to the beach, ride bikes, and generally absorb as much daylight as possible. We also just got two baby bunnies and a bearded dragon, so I get to go pay real dollars for live insects at Petco.๐คฆโ๏ธ
Tubbs Hill! I try to do it a couple of times a week when it isn’t covered in ice.
A vet, but a ballerina on the weekends. As one does. ๐
YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!
Drinking all of the coffees. I measure prices of things in how many coffees they’re equal to.
Green smoothie, every time.
Try to find a consistent time to go! I loved it when I would just drop in here and there (and might go back to that in the summer when 5:30 am isn’t a necessity), but finding a time when you know who will be there is so fun. It’s like you go for social hour with your gym friends and end up getting really sweaty.
